If you have been diagnosed with fibroid (myoma) on ultrasound or MRI the next step is to the plan further line of treatment. Surgical plan will depend upon:-
- Your symptoms
- Location of the fibroid in the uterus
- Size of the fibroid & number of fibroids
- Need for further pregnancy
The removal of the fibroid or multiple fibroid can be accomplished by Laparoscopy. Surgical removal of fibroid is called myomectomy. Laparoscopic myomectomy offers on excellent outcome for the patient. Laparoscopic surgery is minimally invasive. There are three small cut 10 mm, 10 mm and 5mm each over the abdomen, so basically minimal scar following surgery. The patient is very comfortable post laparoscopic surgery as there is minimal pain; the patient is able to get up and move around after few hours. As the patient is able to take liquid after few hours of Laparoscopic surgery, walk around as there is insignificant or minimal pain, it is very reassuring for the patient. The very fact that the patient is able to go home within 24-36 hours adds to the wellbeing and joy.
